The crown of the Statue of Liberty returns to be open to the public from this Sunday October 28 , after a year of restoration work.Tickets to visit are now available online.
Located on a port island In New York, the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the people of the United States as a sign of friendship and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was inaugurated on October 28 of 1886 , commemorating the centenary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States.The Statue was declared a National Monument in 1924 and restored by its centenary on July 4, 1986.
"We are delighted to open again the doors of the Lady of Freedom to public&rdquo ;, said David Luchsinger, superintendent of the national monument."We have reached an important milestone in our project to improve the security measures and the prevention of fires in the monument and that is why they will begin again the visits, for now in a limited way, to the monument, while the project concludes definitively at the end of the year.It is very special for us to reopen the Statue of Liberty next Sunday October 28, the day of its 126 birthday .We are also proud to provide visitors with better access and service."
There are still minor jobs to be completed inside the pedestal.During this period access to the monument will be limited but tourists If you can visit the crown from next weekend with prior reservation online, the monument is expected to reopen completely in early 2013.
