A few days ago, the Prado Museum asked for help to geologists and mountain fans to identify this landscape painted in the nineteenth century by Agustin Riancho (1841-1929) .The painting, which will be presented in the Prado from July 15, comes from a private collection and has always been listed as« landscape of montana» Unidentified. The restorer Pedro Jose Martinez Plaza explains that, by« technique and style, it is from when Riancho returns to Spain in 1888, because he had previously been working in Belgium» ;.
The painter had returned that Anus to his native place, Entrambasmestas (Cantabria), between the valley of Pas and Miera .The expert says that all his work of that time is closely linked to that area.So he decided to investigate.to Costa Quebrada and the only geological park of the place. But there was no immediate response, which already made him think that the objective was not going to be so easy.
Since then, and after the request for help for part of the Prado Museum, several geologists and mountain fans have circled around this image, and have raised their options on social networks, without a clear answer for now.
The geologist Luis Collantes It has been one of the most active in collecting ideas contributed on the social network Twitter. In these lines I collect we are some of those images and places, areas of ridges and edges .Perhaps none corresponds to the place painted by Riancho, but all show outstanding and little known landscapes of Spain.
It reminds me very much of the Salto del Gitano, in Monfrague.Besides, it coincides with the course of the river.pic.twitter.com/Fo06rxYrlZ
