Architecture in China never ceases to amaze.Infinite bridges, vertigo walkways and now a library of 33,700 square meters that is all the rage for its futuristic design.The Tianjin Binhai Library , rated the most beautiful« in China» ;, houses 1.2 million books strategically placed throughout an auditorium spherical on undulating shelves of white color.The interior of the space also stands out for its great luminosity thanks to a large circular opening that provides light and invites to take a seat and surrender to reading.
The futuristic library is located within a large gallery, crowned by domed arches shaped like a cathedral, that meanders throughout the whole scheme.
The building is divided into five levels .The underground level has service spaces, book storage and a large file, while in the On the ground floor there are easy-to-read reading areas for children and the elderly, the main entrance and access to the cultural complex, the auditorium.The first and second floors consist mainly of rooms reading, books and living rooms, while the two upper floors also include meeting rooms, offices, computer and audio rooms.
It has been the architecture and urban planning studio MVRDV, together with the Institute of Tianjin Urban Planning and Design (TUPDI), who have designed the library as part of a broader plan to provide a cultural district for the city.The project is surrounded by four other cultural buildings designed by a team international architects such as Bernard Tschumi Architects, Bing Thom Architects, HH Design and GMP.
